1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device. It lets the site remember things between page loads — that you have already confirmed your age, for example, or which cookie choices you made. Cookies cannot read other files on your device or carry viruses.
This policy also covers similar technologies such as local storage, which we use for the same purposes.
2. Your choice
When you first visit greenwynd.com, a banner asks how you would like us to handle cookies. You can Accept All, Reject All, or open Cookie Settings and choose category by category. Rejecting non-essential cookies does not restrict your access to any part of this site.
You can change your mind at any time — reopen the cookie settings here, or use the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of any page. Your choice is stored for 12 months, after which we will ask again.
3. What we use, and why
3.1 Strictly necessary cookies — always active
These make the site work. They cannot be switched off, and they are set without consent because the site cannot function without them.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| gw_age_ok | Remembers that you have confirmed you are 20 or over, so the age verification does not appear on every page | Until you clear your browser storage |
| gw_cookie_consent | Stores the cookie choices you made, so we do not ask again on every page | 12 months |
| Session cookie | Keeps your form entries intact while you move between pages | Until you close the browser |
3.2 Analytics cookies — off until you allow them
These tell us which pages guests look at, how they arrived, and where the site is confusing. The results are aggregated; we do not use them to identify individuals. IP addresses are truncated before storage.
| Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Analytics provider | Distinguishes one visitor from another so visits can be counted | 13 months |
| Analytics provider | Records the current session and the pages viewed in it | 30 minutes |
3.3 Marketing cookies — off until you allow them
These let us show Greenwynd accommodation and dining offers to people who have visited this site, on other websites and social platforms, and measure whether those advertisements worked.
| Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Advertising partner | Recognises your browser so our offers can be shown on other sites | 90 days |
| Advertising partner | Measures whether an advertisement led to a booking enquiry | 90 days |
We do not use cookies to advertise gambling. Our marketing promotes accommodation, dining, spa and event services, in line with the ASA Gambling Advertising Code, and is never directed at people under 20.
3.4 Embedded content
Our contact page embeds a map from OpenStreetMap so you can see where we are. Loading that map involves a request to the map provider, which will see your IP address. We do not control cookies set by third-party sites you reach through links from ours.
4. Managing cookies in your browser
Separately from our banner, every major browser lets you block or delete cookies:
- Chrome — Settings › Privacy and security › Third-party cookies
- Safari — Settings › Privacy › Manage Website Data
- Firefox — Settings › Privacy & Security › Cookies and Site Data
- Edge — Settings › Cookies and site permissions
Blocking all cookies will mean the age confirmation appears on every page you open, because we will have nowhere to remember your answer.
5. Personal information
Where cookie data can be linked to you, it is personal information and is handled under our Privacy Policy and the Privacy Act 2020.
6. Changes and contact
We review this policy whenever we change the tools we use. Questions go to [email protected] or Privacy Officer, Greenwynd Hospitality Ltd, 47 Fernhill Road, Queenstown 9300, Otago, New Zealand.
